Everyone meet Colter from Oconto Falls, he modeled so well his photography session was a breeze! I really enjoyed getting to know him through out his session.
I wish him the best in his senior year and in his future education of becoming and engineer!
Thank you much Colter for letting me capture this time in your life for you!
She was so much fun to photograph, we laughed the entire session! She moved so well, it was a flawless afternoon!
Since she purchased my Golden Senior Package she got four hours of photography and she split it up 3 in the summer and 1 in the fall. I am so excited to photograph her and her family this fall!
Check out my facebook fan page : facebook.com/photographybykaren to keep posted on her fall photos!
Best of luck in your senior year Courtney!!

Allison is a senior at Southwest High. Most of her session was photographed at the studio location, we traveled a little down the road to get some photos in a wheat field.
She was a joy, she never stopped smiling that bright smile, making it so easy to get some great photos of her!
I loved the outfits that she brought to the shoot. For example, the purple top was great with her hair and skin tone!
Best of luck to Allison in your senior year! I know you'll be awesome in wherever life take you.

Today's post is all about a certain baby with the kind of sweet little face that will surely put a smile on your face. Stella was so much fun to photograph and our session turned out so perfectly!
This particular session was a very special since her dad has served in the military for almost 20 years, so we took a little time to some photos of that. The flag wrap is from my studio props, it was perfect for this photo with her dad.
Stella is so adorable. I couldn't have asked for a better session!
Take a look at the pictures for yourself! Enjoy the adorableness below!
I get to hang out with this cutie even more in the coming months thanks to my first year package (https://www.photoby-karen.com/newborn-and-children
). Lucky me!
Hello Everyone! |
Come check out my display booth at the Oconto County fair August 18-21. It is full of this past years photos and a slideshow! Come see if your photos is on display.
If you are new client please come grab a coupon to save you on your next session. Or sign up for a chance to win a FREE SESSION and a $50 GIFT CARD.
I have been putting up a booth at the fair for about 7 years, it has paid off in many ways. It started out with just a few photos on a faux brick wall my dad built (which I still use a backdrop now) to old doors and pallets. The best part is most of the stuff you see in the display are ether props or decorations from my house. What you see here is what my house looks like. Or some of it is even old wedding decorations. The barn wood pieces with photos on them, I made to display my personal photos at home, but hey why not use them here. So my house looks really bare for a couple days!
I get some many new clients because of this display, I love to display all my clients happy memories.
Long before I started my photography business I knew that I wanted to have a family and become a mom. Growing up on a dairy farm my parents were always just outside if we needed anything and always had time to spend time with us. I knew that I wanted to do the same. I decided that I was not going to send him to daycare and continue my photography business while having Walker home with me.
Since he came early my maternity leave was cut short since I thought I had a whole another month of time to photograph some clients, but thankful they all moved their sessions to the following month so I could learn to jungle my new life with a newborn.
Now a couple months later Im a back to work and lucky to have a great extended family to watch him while I photography clients couple days a weeks. Grandparents love their Walker time, and his aunts.
Before Walker I could schedule anytime, and not have to worry about where my child was going or when I have to pump. Now I make sure that I have enough time between each session to take care of pumping so I can focus on my clients session.
Now when it comes to editing, this is a whole new area! Walker and I are learning this together, instead of the old saying "sleep while the baby sleeps" In my house it is "edit while the baby sleeps" It may take me little longer then usually to edit one photos but it is all worth it when Walker smiles at me and I know that I am here for him. I know that I am lucky that I can work from home and not need daycare, some mothers need daycare and its totally okay to send them. Daycares are a great social experience and wonderful for kids. And who knows maybe when he is older or I have another I will choose to send them. Life is ever changing.
I also decided about a year ago before Walker came that I was going to start to honor business hours. I am closed on Sundays and Mondays to run errands and spend time with my family. I also have business hours on weekdays, I shut my phone off after Im closed and return all messages the next business day. I was so clued to my phone/emails that life was passing me by. I want to live in the moment.
Working mothers all need a gold metal and lots of love! I am new at this and I dont know everything and Im sure I will make a mistake every now and again. I do have a great supportive husband that helps when he is home.
I just thought maybe my current or new clients would like to knew a little bit of what it is like to run a photography business with a newborn. Love it!
]]>Hello Baby Branson, this little man was such a sweetheart. He is just about a month old but did so well at his newborn session.
I had the honor of photographing this guys parents engagement and wedding just over two years ago and now I get to photograph his entire first year! So excited to see how this little guy grows!
I'm still flying high from one of the most wonderful shoots I've had in a while. The pretty little lady in front of the lens was wonderful to work with.
As for baby Bridget, she was a little angel and slept peacefully through the majority of our 3-hour session.
Okay, no more talking (or would that be typing?). Check out little Bridget for yourself!
You may be seeing more of little Bridget in the very near future! I'm lucky enough to photograph her every few months with my "Grow with Me Package".

Let me stop for a second to tell you that I am seriously the luckiest photographer in the world. My clients are always so amazing to work with. That's true of my session with the Schowalter family, too!
I met up with them last week at the studio, we travel just down the road and the weather was perfect for photo-taking. It was warm and the sun was hiding perfectly behind the beautiful leaves. While the weather was fine, it was the Schowalter family that made this shoot such a joy. Im pretty excited for February when they welcome their first baby boy!
Hope you enjoy the pictures! Our Session highlights are below. If you need a family session please contact the studio via email today at photoby-karen@outlook.

Ashley was a model from Ashwaubenon High School, she contacted me a year prior to her senior year to get an application to model. We started out in the spring taking photos in my grass at my studio. At that moment I knew I had made a great choice of model to spread the word of the studio in the Green Bay area. We had another session in July, we started out on the soccer field at her high school and drove back to Spruce area to get some water photos. Then we met up in Green Bay again for a mini fall session with the beautiful colors. Such a great girl and loved working with her. If you see her around ask her about the studio referral program. If you would like to model for Photography By Karen, please contact the studio at [email protected] for a application.
As you may have already herd or seen on social media, my husband and I are expecting our first baby in March 2016. We are a little nervous but very excited to start this new chapter in our lives. We have been waiting for this for a long time, and can't wait.
I will be taking maternity leave from mid February to June, give or take. Since this is my first baby, I am not sure how my body will react and don’t know how things will go. I could work all the way up to delivery or put on bed rest, wont know till February/March.
You are all very important to me and I know that you have trusted me with your memories. I understand if you need to go to another photographer during my leave, but please contact me first to see how I'm coming along with my leave and see what my schedule looks like.
All contracted "Grow With Me Packages" will not be an issue and I have contacted all of you and you know how we will work through this. Any regular child sessions will start after leave is over.
All contracted booked weddings during my leave will be photographed with 110%, tho I do plan on breastfeeding and will need to step aside at slow times. I do have a second photographer that will come in handy.
All Senior Model Sessions will not start till after my leave, please email me at [email protected] if you are interested.
Normally Senior crazy season don't start till July, so I will start booking all sessions starting then, same for family and engagement sessions.
In the past I have been able to take sessions whenever, now with a baby on the way. I have to look at my schedule and see when it works best for my family and the people that will be watching my bundle of joy.
I will be setting up a schedule that will give me days to edit, and days to take photos.
Photography Sessions will be on Wednesday to Saturdays. Editing Days will be Tuesdays. Closed on Sundays and Mondays for family time. (this may change, like I said I have no idea how things will change and how things will work)
If you have any questions please contact me via email! Thanks Karen

I just want to say a HUGE THANK YOU to all my past and current clients! This summer marks the 10 Year Anniversary of Photography By Karen. I started off with a dream and a film camera and grown into a successful photography business. It has been a lot of hard work and dedication but all worth it to be able to do this full time. And its all thanks to you!
I was very lucky to have two younger sisters willing to model for me back when we have to do project for 4-H and FFA for the county fair. I started with my mom's film camera and dressed up my sisters. We walked around the farm (thank God my dad had a lot of tractors) and took pictures next to buildings and random things. I remember my mother telling me after she developed them that I should really think about being a photographer, and this was at the age of 14. Now Im using my sister's baby to model for me! Its funny how time flies and things change.
As my sisters go older I had them model for me when I started the business 10 years ago. But I was very blessed to have two friends of mine let me take their senior photos our senior year. Took those photos with the old Canon Film Camera and traveled everywhere to find some amazing spots for photos.
I remember my first wedding on a film camera and changing the roll every 24 shots, I would never go imagine going from that to taking a photo every second on a wedding day and walking away with over 5,000 to go through and edit. I was so scared at my first wedding, now I can't wait til my clients wedding days. Weddings have become a favorite of mine to photograph. Capturing a loving couples special day and freezing it in time is an honor.
Back when I first got this all started I was taking maybe 5 seniors a summer and a few child/family shoots now I take 2-3 sessions a day and 1-2 weddings a month during the slow season and 4 a month during the summer. I am so blessed to have a great client base and wonderful clients that spread the word of the business.
I am also very blessed to photograph some seniors and then their weddings and now their babies. Love it!
Each session and client has meant so much to me and I have created a lot of wonderful friendships and memories for myself and for my clients over the last 10 years. It actually makes me tear up a little thinking about how much you all mean to me. I try really hard to make every session unique and fun for each client. I know that my photography style and work has changed/grown over the years and I am willing to keep growing and learning for all of you!
No words can express how grateful I am for all of you! Heres to 10 years and more of great friendships, photos and smiles!
